I have had it with Compass, today was the last straw!! I had made a deposit the day before in cash, I recieved my receipt and had posted in to my account via online, so I presumed everything was good. I WAS WRONG! The next day I decide to log in, and come to find that my money had been withdrawn and the deposit that had been made, wasnt even showing. How is that, I call the 1800 number and they did not help at all, I had to go to the branch and two people could not figure out what happened, and why my deposit had not posted according to the receipt the deposit was made before cut off time… I am stil waiting for a response.

I would definitely DEMAND a refund of late fees. And I make all my payments online. Back in the 90s I once made my mortgage payment at the branch, they took the over $2,000 payment out of my checking, did NOT credit it to my account and I almost lost my house in foreclosure — despite having made every single payment on time.

And that happens quite often. Either bank employees STEAL the cash or the bank moves it into the directors’ bonus account.

I’m so glad I stumbled across your website! Compass has been HORRIBLE to deal with ever since the BBVA was affixed to the name. I remember back 8 years ago the branch in Chandler, AZ at Casa Paloma on 56th Street and I-10 was so easy to deal with should the odd problem arise. In my case, the branch employees are still very pleasant, but completely stunted at the branch level from handling anything beyond opening accounts, taking deposits, etc.

I’ve had several recent problems with them. The problem I had today brought me to your site. I have been making in-branch credit card payments for upwards of 2 years with no problems. However, it seems Compass has decided that in-branch payments aren’t really convenient for them on business credit cards. When you make a payment in-branch, it can take “five business days after the date of receipt” for the payment to be credited to the account. Meaning, even if you pay the payment prior to the due date (but within the 5 business days prior), they call it a late payment and assess a late payment fee.

The branch had no idea, so obviously they aren’t advising customers not to make a payment at Compass Bank on a Compass Bank credit card. And they also can’t resolve the late fee at the branch level. That’s just one issue I’ve had recently.

That’s interesting, didn’t know it is Spanish owned. But I can’t say that it was any different before they were bought up, nor are the other large American owned banks any better.

I really hope that many dissatisfied customers join the Common Good Bank as founding members and that it will be up and running soon:

Don’t worry. Compass is currenty under what the government regulators call an MOU (memorandum of understanding) for misrepresenting financial information and not holding enough money aside for bad loans. You are much better off without them in your life. And to be honest, because the company is 100% owned by BBVA in Spain, they don’t care about US regulations or US customers. They are just here to make a fast buck and to give their Spanish employees an opportunity to work tax free in the US and to brush up on their English.

I’ve been following the efforts to open the Common Good Bank for years and now that they accept donations and loan / stock purchase pledges to start the bank, it’s up to us to get it started. There’s a LOT of info at the site and it’s a very different approach to banking. A bit like a credit union, but a bank.

I became a founding member and hope that you and many other readers will vote with their money!

I was a customer of Guaranty Bank for over a year when BBVA Compass took over, and I have been with BBVA for a year now, so I have had this account for a total of over two years now. Two weeks ago I decided that I would open a savings account because I was saving up for a large purchase and wanted to keep that money separate from my checking account. I opened the account online and the opening deposit was deducted from my checking account; I received all of the nice “welcome” emails and everything was hunkey dorey….not!!! Two days later, on payday, I go into the bank to make a transfer from my checking to my new savings and low and behold Houston we have a problem. Apparently, BBVA ran my information through EWA (a company that is gradually replacing Checksystems), and discovered that SIX years ago my name was placed in this database therefore I was a fraud risk to BBVA so they froze not only the new savings account but also my EXISTING checking account (of over two years), and they were in the process of closing both. How inconvenient for me that my payroll check (of over $4500) had just been electronically deposited that very day! This was a Friday afternoon and thank goodness I had decided to do some banking on my lunch hour or I would have been totally screwed all weekend. They completely cut off my access to MY money! I went through a huge hassel trying to withdrawal my paycheck while the teller and supervisor called several FRAUD departments, right there at the counter! I should mention that the line was long, there were only two other tellers open and the customers in line (angry and impatient at this point) could hear every word of what was going on. I was extremely embarassed and finally I asked to see the branch manager and demanded to be allowed to sit in his office where I could have some privacy and try to maintain at least a shred of dignity. Finally they agreed to allow me to withdrawal my pay but the remaining $500 or so is being held for 3 weeks so that they can earn interest on it before sending it back to me by mail. Please do not become a victim of this Nazi bank.

The site should be up in a week. The purpose is to put all blogs and forums in a single place so we can get a class action lawsuit underway. I have contacted the attorneys who sued Wells Fargo and will keep you updated. The only way to stop this is to get everyone focused in the same place. After reading blogs everywhere i am convinced we all need to focus and get united. I have been pushed past the point with Compass and will keep at this until they pay like Wells Fargo and hope to go further if we get powerful enough and can take this to congress.
