Summary of my experiences with Site 5 and CEO Ben Welch-Bolen

A month ago Site 5 CEO Ben Welch-Bolen had my web hosting account closed because I posted my Site 5 experiences at Web Hosting Talk:

Site5 HORROR!

I’ve had a Site5 small reseller account for almost a year and a few months ago the service became AWFUL. 2 hour down times followed by 2 hour scheduled maintenance at 10PM PST (my prime time), eventual migration to a new server with the same continued problems.

The server is down again right now and it appears that they are just totally incompetent. I’ve tried to find out what’s going on, but while they are always so polite, I’m unable to get a straight answer.

I also found out that Site5 keeps no records of server reboots and the causes and it only announces EXTENDED outages at their forums.

My bandwidth last month was under 20 gigs and I’m using just under 10 gb of space (checked WHM accounts).

I’m not actually reselling, but have about 20 mostly nonprofit / personal domains, but the two smallest sites are my business and livelihood and the outages are killing me because I work online.

The Site5 $23/month reseller account was really fantastic until the service became such a nightmare with almost daily downtime.

I suppose I can spend $50 or so if that’s what it takes to get decent uptime. Been on the web since 1994 and have never experienced anything as bad as Site 5, but after reading here for a while, I see it’s possible to do worse.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Christine

Site 5 CEO Ben Welch-Bolen  chose to LIE instead of explaining what REALLY happened.   I have an extremely low tolerance for lies and Ben has to be one of the most obnoxious CEOs I’ve come across in a while.

When he realized that I won’t be intimidated, he offered me a year free hosting.  I declined.

Ben responded by ordering my account terminated and I had 15 days to move.  In hindsight, I’m very grateful that Ben made me move because the unimaginable happened:

Site5′s horrible service became even worse.  The server was down for over 32 HOURS (not minutes) in August 2011.

I understand now why I ended up at Site 5 despite countless hours of research.

Ben offers free hosting for silence and apparently most people accept the bribe.

I moved and was busy doing the countless things I do and I didn’t think about Site5 at all until I got an email yesterday from another unhappy Site5 customer with the link to her thread at Web Hosting Talk:

Endless problems with Site 5

I posted in this thread, but strangely my post is now a NEW thread:

It’s ALWAYS the customers’ fault — or (made up) DDOS attacks

As usual, Ben posted LIE after LIE.

On 8/5/11 I had posted about Site 5 at one of my blogs:

Site5 webhosting woes – from fantastic to unacceptable

I decided to set up this new blog here for several reasons:

  • Nobody should ever research Site5 without seeing how they do business.
  • Site 5 CEO Ben Welch-Bolen is a liar and I take it PERSONAL when people lie to me or about me.
  • To list the Web Hosting Talk members who support Ben and Site 5 so I don’t ever open an account with them.

If 5 – 10 hours of downtime every month are NORMAL for a $23/month reseller account, we’ll just have to pay more.

However, having been on the web since 1994, I don’t consider that normal at all.  Maybe I’m wrong, we’ll see.

I will of course update with how things go with my new account at Hawk Host.  So far I’ve been very happy with the support and I haven’t noticed ANY downtime yet.

I’m VERY busy, but I’ll post some more documentation about Ben’s lies ASAP.
