Your FREE annual credit report

You probably know that you’re entitled to your FREE annual credit reports once a year.  You can order your Experian, Equifax and Trans Union reports online:

IMPORTANT:  The time for credit bureaus to investigate DISPUTES is extended to 45 days.

So if you’re facing a deadline and you need corrections quickly, do NOT order the free annual reports.

Prepare to answer their SECURITY questions correctly.

The best way to do this is to already HAVE their credit report.

Often you’ll have to admit or deny whether you have a mortgage or car loan from a certain creditor or they provide a listing with several lenders.

Don’t think that it’ll have to be one of those creditors, check NONE OF THE ABOVE if you don’t recognize the name.  BUT, be aware that many banks have been SOLD and even closed accounts are sold and reported by NEW lenders — without any notice to you.  And to make it even more difficult, a creditor can report under different names to each credit bureau.

Be prepared to NOT receive the reports due to their inability to verify your identity.

That’s easy to fix if money is no issue:  at least 90% of my clients who were declined the free reports had NO problem PURCHASING the credit reports.

TRANS UNION WARNING:

You will be prompted to disclose LOTS of information about your interests (don’t do it!) and you will be bombarded with advertisements for the most deplorable debt settlement and finance companies.

The Trans Union reports are NOT complete.  I will elaborate in more detail as I write about my lawsuit against Trans Union and its subsidiary TrueCredit.  There is currently no way to get a COMPLETE credit report from Trans Union unless you dispute.  The INVESTIGATION RESULTS contain information NOT on the free annual reports.

What is a credit file disclosure or a credit report?

A credit file disclosure, commonly called a credit report, provides you with all of the information in your credit file maintained by a consumer reporting company that could be provided by the consumer reporting company in a consumer report about you to a third party, such as a lender. A credit file disclosure also includes a record of everyone who has received a consumer report about you from the consumer reporting company within a certain period of time (“inquiries”). The credit file disclosure includes certain information that is not included in a consumer report about you to a third party, such as the inquiries of companies for pre-approved offers of credit or insurance and account reviews, and any medical account information which is suppressed for third party users of consumer reports. You are entitled to receive a disclosure copy of your credit file from a consumer reporting company under Federal law and the laws of various states.
Clearly, Trans Union violates the law when it provides reports WITHOUT all inquiries.

Until Bush  took office in 2000, the FTC relentlessly sued Trans Union for illegal use of credit data for MARKETING.

I’m not sure when Trans Union added advertisements to the credit reports, but it’s been years and NOTHING has changed under Obama.

One reason I decided to start this blog is to document the extraordinary corruption of our governments and regulators and to DOCUMENT the credit bureaus’ ILLEGAL practices. I’m sick and tired of my clients who need to improve FICO scores having to order 5 (FIVE!!!) credit reports to get “most” data and then having to PAY ME to review all these reports.
